General Questions

Q. How do I know which service to book?

A. As long as you know how much time you would like, book that.  Your service provider will help you chose the correct treatment for your skin.

Q. How early should I arrive?

A. If this is your first visit, please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment to fill out an intake form.  Arriving 5 minutes early for subsequent appointments is recommended.

Q. What if I am late to my appointment?

A. Unless there is not a booking directly after you, your treatment will be shortened to keep the Esthetician on schedule.

Q. What if I need to cancel my appointment?

A. Please provide at least six (6) hours notification for all canceled or changed spa and salon appointments to avoid a 50% cancellation fee. Missed appointments will be charged 100% of service fee.  Please notify us immediately should you be experiencing a sore throat, high fever, chills, sneezing, coughing or runny nose.

Q. What should I wear to the spa?

A. Wear something comfortable.  You may be given a gown or disposable undergarments to change into.  Your therapist will step out of the room to let you change.  You will be covered at all times.

Q. Can I bring my kids with me?

A. For your maximum relaxation benefits, it is not recommended to bring children, but if you must, there are seats available for them.

Q. What forms of payment do you accept?

A. Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay, Android Pay, Samsung Pay, Zelle, and of course, cash.  Sorry, checks are not accepted.

Q. What about gratuities?

A. In appreciation of exceptional service, gratuities are welcomed and may be given at your discretion.

Q. What is your cell phone policy?

A. There is a charging station available in the consultation area with both Iphone and Android plugs.  Please set your phone to silent & let it charge while your service is performed!

Q. Do you offer refunds on purchased products?

A. Yes, we will refund any product within 15 days of purchase. Products must be unopened/unused and in original packaging. We will make exchanges for products that have been opened/used within 15 days of purchase. Additional charges may apply to the exchange.

Q. Do you have any spa deals or specials?

A. Yes, we often have spa deals or special packages available, and they change monthly. Visit our Specials and Packages Page for details!

Q. Can children receive services?

A. Joy Spa is a family spa and welcomes guests of all ages. Spa treatments for guests under the age of 18 must be under the supervision and consent of a parent or a legal guardian and must be present at all times.  A waiver must be completed.

Q. What distinguishes Joy Spa from the rest?

Skin Care Questions

Q. Should men shave before receiving a facial?

A. Shaving is recommended, but please do so at least 2 hours prior to your service.  If you have a beard you may still receive a facial, the  beard area will be avoided.

Q. What should I tell my service provider?

A. All guests receiving spa treatments have not only the right, but also the responsibility to communicate openly with their therapist about their service during the treatment. Any special expectations, personal preferences and/or possible concerns about how a treatment is progressing should be addressed directly with the service provider.  If you have a special request to make your treatment more enjoyable such as dimmer lights, softer music, a lighter or heavier touch, an extra blanket, etc. Please do not hesitate to ask. If there are certain things you wish your therapist NOT to do such as work on your feet, your face, your abdomen or scalp/hair, please communicate your desires.

In addition, you have the obligation to let your therapist know about any health related conditions that could potentially cause you discomfort or harm during the course of your treatment. This would include, but is not limited to, pregnancy, recent surgeries, diabetes, injuries, high or low blood pressure, heart conditions, shellfish or iodine allergies, and any other allergies.

All of our services are designed to nurture, relax, restore and meet your specific needs. We welcome your input and feedback.

Q. Can I still receive services if I am pregnant?

A. Your physician can best advise you on which treatments are safe. We also suggest that you avoid treatments using deep pressure and heat. 

Q. What if I have a special medical conditions?

A. We recommend that you check with your physician prior to booking. Please notify us at the time of booking, and at the beginning of your treatment.  Your therapist will also briefly review your health history with you before beginning your service. If she believes that the service you are scheduled for is unsafe based on any information given, she may recommend canceling the service, booking another service or modifying the service to make it safe for you. As we are most concerned about your safety and comfort, the Spa reserves the right to refuse service to any guest at any time. 

Q. What are the benefits of a facial?

A. Our skin is our largest organ and often times the most neglected. While each facial service is designed for a specific purpose there are some common benefits you’ll experience.

Waxing Questions

Q. What is the difference between a Bikini wax and a Brazilian wax?

A. A bikini wax removes the hair that would show if you were wearing bikini bottoms.  A Brazilian wax removes all the hair from the front to the back.  If you prefer to leave a little something up front, please be sure to mention this before we begin.

Q. Does waxing hurt?

A. Listen, beauty is pain.  It's certainly not a comfortable experience - I mean, we ARE ripping the hairs from their follicles.  But please forget everything you've heard or read on the internet - it's not THAT bad.  Especially in the hands of a very experienced Esthetician.  She will pull the skin tight, and may even ask you to help!  Just remember ladies - that 3 days before, during, or 3 days after your cycle, you will be more sensitive.  If you do decide to get a Brazilian wax during this time, please make sure you tuck the string up inside you when you change, and remember to pop an Advil or Motrin before you get here.  But I promise - the first one is the worst.  It gets easier.


Helpful Tips

  • Avoid bringing valuables and wearing jewelry to the Spa. We are not responsible for valuables lost or left at the Spa.
  • Some guests prefer to fully undress for their treatments, some do not.  Please disrobe to your personal comfort level.
  • It is recommended that you refrain from consuming alcohol at least eight hours prior to your Spa treatment.
